Week 2A: My Opinion on Social Media Platforms
For personal use, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat, Tumblr, Pinterest and YouTube are popular social media platforms. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and YouTube all offer options to "like", comment, and share posts to friends, family or followers. Examples of use are vlog-ing via YouTube; offer creative resources on Pinterest; socially blog on Tumblr; instant message on SnapChat; Facebook is widely used to connect through personal stories and pictures; and Instagram and Twitter can be used to share travels or trending headlines.
As for business implementation, social media is a great platform for promoting brands, current events and promotions. The use of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn come to mind in a business environment. Facebook has a huge community and the use of the "share" button expedites getting the word out on upcoming events, promotions or sales. Instagram is a where a "picture is worth a thousand words". When a quick image flashes and piques my interest, I would likely click through more images or a link. An example of this would be an image of a featured daily special. If it looks delicious, I would want to know more of the restaurant. Twitter is another example of promotion. An example of this is a food truck sharing its followers where it will be. For instance @kogibbq in Irvine, CA, lets its followers know when and where they'll be located at. Businesses can also build their own YouTube channel to advertise their brand. These videos can be commercials or offer information to attract subscribers. LinkedIn connects people to professional communities and is a powerful networking tool.
I believe Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube are all avenues that work well both for personal and business use. Facebook offers the ease of use to share stories, milestones and updates. Instagram and Twitter are great marketing tools that deliver messages that can quickly capture the audience. YouTube is great for promotion and engaging content. Social Media is a powerful personal and business communicative tool for sharing ideas, stories and promoting businesses.

Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteYes, you are right about pictures from a business can attract a lot of people. When you state about businesses making their own channel in youtube, It reminds me of having seen a restaurant posting videos almost every week offering their buffettes days. I am not sure if facebook is charging for advertising, but I think nowadays, social media is the best tool for advertising a business.
Hi!
DeleteYes, Facebook has a whole platform for advertising. They offer tools to help streamline and create ads that are as "simple or sophisticated" as you want them to be.
You explained every social media platform perfectly. Each one was unique when it started out. In recent years, when Facebook acquired Instagram they added similar features. I don't recall Facebook having stories. Stories were added to Instagram first, and I think they copied it from Snapchat. Now IGTV has been added to Instagram and I think they copied that off of Youtube. Today, all of the platforms seem like a remix of each other. Twitter, Youtube and Snapchat seem to have stayed the same. I haven't used Snapchat in over 3 years so I have no idea what new features it has.
ReplyDeleteHi Cristina,
DeleteI totally agree with you that social media platforms are a mash up of each other and benefit from leveraging strengths of each tool. :)
Wow great explanation! I really like how you explained why you like those specific platforms as opposed to just listing them. I totally understand why you would choose them and it makes sense. I guess we just aim for different things but great post!
ReplyDeleteHi Israel,
DeleteYou're right! Different tools for different reasons and audiences. :)
