Week 3 Part I: Communicating with a Business
Social media is a powerful tool to communicate with businesses. As mentioned in the class lecture, "Social media can give customers an opportunity to talk and business to listen." (Faulk n.d.)
I have used social media to communicate my praise and disappointment with various businesses, whether "liking" on Facebook or Instagram or leaving a comment on Yelp, these tools made it easier to be acknowledged and heard. There exists transparency with the company because the feedback is public for all those to view and be influenced by peers.
My experience has been positive when communicating my transaction or experience through social media. For example, when commenting on a restaurant, I posted a picture of the dish and appended my comments on its deliciousness. I received a reply from a restaurant employee thanking me for my patronage and inviting me to visit again soon. That created a "connection" for me as a warm welcome back and a motivator to tell friends about the restaurant, i.e., "word of mouth marketing." Alex Head said, "Instagram is without a doubt my go-to platform for inspiration. The peer-to-peer recommendations shared by friends and influencers is an instant motivator for making me visit a restaurant. It provides an honest overview that I can access via an app I use daily.” (Horton 2018)
Communication with businesses and their consumers have improved with the ease of use of social media platforms. It allows for open dialogue and feedback about services and products.

That's wonderful! It does feel great to be acknowledged by a business, and it's a motivating factor as a consumer to tell our family and friends about the establishment. I rant and rave for businesses who are friendly and responsive. As for inluencers, I don't really trust their opinions on products as much as I used to because they are getting paid or given free products and scripts on what to say.
ReplyDeleteGreat point, Cristina! One does need to be cautious when considering reviews, I didn't really think about the paid influencers.
DeleteI'm glad customers can right reviews on business. I find yelp to be really helpful when out of town, I've seen comments about people getting sick from a restaurant and comments about a not so known restaurant that is amazing! Getting acknowledged by a business makes you realize that they do care about their customers and appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteHi Arianna!
DeleteI often use Yelp! when I am looking for the newest and best eateries as well. It also helps with menu choice suggestions, too. The opportunity for anyone to write reviews on a business is extremely helpful as you said! It's good that people could review how much they like it and they can give tips and suggestions.
Hello Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI truly enjoyed reading your post regarding the use of social media to communicate with businesses. You outlined your points in a succinct but very effective way.
Hi Glenn,
DeleteThanks so much. I appreciate you reading and your comment. :)
I do agree that social media can make you feel like you have a personal connection with a business.
