Week 3 Part II: Five Business Examples of Social Media Use

Five examples of business websites and their use of social media:

1) Business Name: AFTCO

    Website URL: https://aftco.com/
Social Media Used (Date of last post):
  • Instagram (2/6/19) - Great use, actively updated
  • Facebook (2/4/19) - Good use, great pictures
  • YouTube (1/31/19) - Informative videos
AFTCO uses their choice of social media tools very well.  The pictures and videos are vivid and they lure (no pun intended) their audience in with inviting content. AFTCO uses each platform equally and keeps their subscribers engaged with current content.

2) Business Name: Parkside Church

    Website URL: https://parksidechurch.cc/
Social Media Used (Date of last post):
  • Facebook - Actively updated with fun posts
  • Instagram (2/4/19) - Actively updated
Parkside Church uses Facebook and Instagram to keep their followers updated.  They have use informative and fun posts.  As well, the online content makes it convenient for those that may miss a sermon and could view it online or reference for future use.  Their use of Facebook and Instagram is distributed evenly.

3) Business Name: Guahan Grill

    Website URL: https://www.guahangrill.com/
Social Media Used (Date of last post):
  • Facebook (2/6/19) -  Actively updated
  • Instagram (2/6/19) - Periodic updates
  • Twitter (1/30/19) - Sparse updates
Guahan Grill uses 3 social media tools.  Unfortunately, their link from their site to Twitter is to a different account.   I would suggest using more pictures to advertise food and and draw in hungry eaters.  They do use Instagram well to advertise events and special promotions.  Twitter doesn't seem to be a favorited platform for their restaurant.

4) Business Name: Tempest Free Running Academy - North County

     Website URL:  https://www.tempestacademy.com/north-county
Social Media Used (Date of last post):
  • YouTube (6/26/15) - Not used recently
  • Facebook (1/18/19) - Periodically updated with events and videos
  • Instagram (1/31/19) - Updated frequently with great photos

Tempest Free Running Academy uses 3 social media platforms.  Their YouTube channel has not been updated for 3 years which is disappointing because they have such great action to share at their gyms.  The use of Instagram and Facebook keep people updated with their current events and some videos of participants.  If they could further share the videos there to YouTube, it would be great to generate further excitement about this sport.

5) Business Name: Powell's City of Books

    Website URL:  https://www.powells.com/
Social Media Used (Date of last post):
  • Twitter (2/6/19) - Updated daily, good use
  • Facebook (2/6/19) - Updated daily, good posts
  • Instagram (2/6/19) - Updated daily, fun pictures
  • Tumblr (9/11/18) - Rarely updated, informative post
Powell's City of Books is great example of how to harness social media.  Their frequent updates and engaging content make subscription to their platforms very worthwhile.  With their vast amount of inventory, the information they post make it easy to see the latest available books and highlights of featured authors and book lists.  The thumbnails are unique and pique curiosity to learn more.

I chose websites with different targeted audiences and reach.  AFTCO is a fishing supplier and clothing company, Parkside Church is a Christian church, Guahan Grill is an excellent local restaurant, Tempest Free Running Academy is a great recreational gym with facilities across Southern California and Texas and Powell's City of Books is the world's largest independent bookstore.  From the diverse sample, I discovered the power of social media to get content shared to consumers and patrons.

Social media is an inexpensive way to reach potential customers, a great way to discover new brands, learn of events or share information.  AFTCO delivers its content in a way that increases brand awareness.  Consumers of the brand post pictures of their products being used in action.  Parkside Church and Guahan Grill both leverage social media to bring awareness of upcoming events and spreading the word of their offerings.

In my examples, YouTube is used in recreational interests.  Both AFTCO and Tempest Free Running Academy take advantage of videos to further promote their products and services.  These videos spark conversations and buzz with others who share the same enthusiasm in these activities.  Conversely, Powell's City of Books does not use YouTube, but focuses on social media platforms that create curiosity with one click.

This assignment has demonstrated the power of social media platforms.  Utilizing these tools in any market niche can benefit and influence purchasing decisions, create leads, and be a used for customer service and support.
